Bad Steben - a spa park with history
Royal flair at the Bavarian spa resort
Bad Steben is known as a spa resort far beyond the country's borders. The Bavarian town has a long tradition as a bathing resort and has many facilities to relax and unwind. A popular place for everyone visiting Bad Steben is the spa park that has been a listed building since 2010. The approximately 40-hectare park was mostly designed in English style and has a Mediterranean flair. Walking, jogging and gymnastics or simply relaxing on a bench and enjoying the quiet - visitors to the park can do all of these. The meadow and temple springs are also located in the partially Art Nouveau-style park.
Bad Steben's royal architecture
One of the hallmarks of Bad Steben is the bathhouse built by Leo von Klenze in 1837. Among other things, the architect worked for King Ludwig I of Bavaria and also planned buildings such as the Walhalla. He also designed the new Hermitage in St. Petersburg. The city of Munich owes Leo von Klenze many well-known buildings that bear his signature.
Music, culture and recreation in Bad Steben
The spa park in Bad Steben has a very special structure. Each of the buildings in the park is from a different era. Depending on the style, so-called open spaces and parterres are matched to the buildings. While in the parterres small trees and borders with flowers and plants are dominant, in the open spaces there are large, freely grouped trees. Characteristic of the park are also the many rhododendrons, which bloom lushly from April to June and provide an enchanting view. The southern part of the park is popular because of its beautiful rose garden. Many stone figures have been placed in its flowerbeds, which are mainly Baroque in style. Music fans especially love the various music pavilions of the spa park. Spa guests can listen to various concerts throughout the year. The musical performances range from well-known waltz melodies by Johann Strauss to swing and operetta. The coffee concerts are also very popular, which, depending on the time of year and weather either take place on the terrace, in the winter garden or in the elegant spa house near the Parkschlösschen.
