Culture, cafés, inns and shopping at the heart of the spa town
Two town hall facades characterise the town hall square (Rathausplatz) of Bad Reichenhall. Colourful façade paintings decorate the old town hall with the clock tower on the gable. It was built around 1850 using the Gothic Revival style. From 1937 to 1938, the new town hall was built using the then prevailing Inn-Salzach style. Around the Wittelsbacher fountain with the four Bavarian Lions, young and old meet in exclusive restaurants and bars or cosy sidewalk cafes. Visitors enjoy the upper Bavarian atmosphere, first-class beer and food in old traditional pubs like the Reichenhall brewery Bürgerbräu. Here beer lovers can try hops and malt specialities such as "Alpenstoff", "Gustl" or even alcohol-free beverages.
A short journey through architectural epochs
Bad Reichenhall's town hall square also houses the traditional administration of the Old Salt Works, which strollers and spa guests can reach very easily. Parsonage and townhouse facades from the 19th century are other architectural features of the town hall square such as house number 4 and corner house number 3. Their mix of Art Nouveau, ideas from Baroque and Neo-Renaissance form an appealing backdrop.
