Historical mountain shelter from the time of the emperors

Climbing to the 1,387 metres high Zwieselalm in the Chiemgau Alps is something also worthwhile for you. On well-accessible serpentine paths, you have a view of beautiful green meadows and impressive mountain forests. For many visitors, the Zwieselalm is a popular place to take photos. The special charm of this mountain shelter even pleased Emperor Wilhelm.

Popular stage finish on the Maximilian trail

Mountaineers take rest in the Zwieselalm. Likewise, hikers on the Maximilian trail treat themselves to a relaxing break here. If you want to take it slow and easy and enjoy the picturesque landscape more intensely and take pictures, you can also spend the night high up. The Kaiser Wilhelm House, which is run exclusively during the warmer summer months, offers overnight accommodation for 60 guests. The alpine hut is managed from May to October, weather permitting.

In addition to the inspiring landscape scenery, the Zwieselalm, which has been there since 1864, also has an extraordinary view. The walls of the mountain shelter are noticeably crooked, and many visitors have to be careful of the extremely low doors. Green shutters match the unmistakable facade of the listed Zwieselalm. Inside, guests feel the old traditional atmosphere. This popular destination has been in family ownership since about 1900. Family Potschacher traditionally pampers visitors to the Zwieselalm with tasty dishes, which are still cooked or roasted on an ancient wood stove.
