The enjoyable Wald-Idyll-Path (Maisweg) trail

A particularly beautiful hiking trail begins as an almost three-kilometre long circular trail at the parking lot of the Bavarian Gmain hiking centre in the Berchtesgaden area. The Wald-Idyll-Path (Maisweg) trail near Bad Reichenhall offers five stations to learn and relax and the beauty of nature to look at and admire, which is especially interesting for families with small children.

Experienced hikers can certainly complete the Wald-Idyll-Pfad trail in less than an hour. However, hiking is only ranked second or third on the Maisweg trail. So a hiker can spend over three hours on the mostly flat hiking trail at a leisurely pace. During every season! The five relaxation spots of knowledge

On the circular trail of Bad Reichenhall, five so-called relaxation spots invite you to rest and ponder. At the respective signpost rondels, hikers learn interesting facts about vegetation, history, geology, water and salt from Bayerisch Gmain and its counterpart on the Austrian side. The border is often just a jump to the right here. However, there is no sign of it in the forest, at the viaduct or the waterfall. Only the rushing of the stream and the wheezing and groaning of the railroad occasionally break the silence of reading or walking.

Fresh air and enjoyable hikes

All senses are used when, at the five relaxation spots, resting tables, water games, fairy thrones, tree-benches and much more invite you to play, romp and relax according to the signpost rondels. Even at first glance, mysterious pieces such as hollowed-out tree trunks - former brine pipes - especially invite small children to explore. At the turning point of the Wald-Idyll-Pfad trail, near the bridge over the Weißbach, adventurous visitors can make a short detour to the castle ruin Plainburg. Similar to the small waterfall that can be reached via a climb, picturesque views of the beauty of the Berchtesgaden mountain landscape make up for the somewhat challenging path.

Railroad adventure on the Weißbach

A particularly impressive photo motif is the old Roman bridge over which trains sometimes cross. This is always a special experience for small children.
