Visiting the Franciscans in the High Rhön

As the "Holy Mountain of the Franks", Kreuzberg in the Bavarian Rhön has been a popular pilgrimage destination for centuries. The cosy restaurant of the monastery brewery ensures that visitors to the Franciscan monastery do not miss out on their wellbeing.

Spiritual experience

As early as 1692, Franciscan monks founded the monastery at an altitude of 864 metres. A way of the cross with stone chapels leads from here to the summit, which quickly became the landmark of the area with its three Golgotha crosses. With its special atmosphere, Kreuzberg still attracts pilgrims today with up to 80 pilgrimages a year.

Enjoying beer and delicacies

Lovers of traditional Bavarian beer have also been attracted to the Franciscans on the top for centuries. The Kreuzberg beer from the monastery's own brewery, built in 1731, has cult status, especially the famous Kloster Dunkel. In the cosy monastery tavern, you also get delicious, freshly prepared dishes. During a trip to Kreuzberg, prayer, contemplation and culinary delights can be wonderfully combined. What Cardinal Faulhaber later wrote in the guest book of the monastery in 1901 still applies today: "An endless crowd came up Kreuzberg, some to the church, others to the pitcher."
