The spa theatre of 1905 - a magnet for audiences
Theatre performances have been carried out in Bad Kissingen since 1778
Although the up-and-coming internationally renowned Bad Kissingen had experience with theatre performances dating back to 1778, it had to settle for changing provisional arrangements for performances for a long time. It was not until 1857 that the first theatre using a Swiss-style wood construction started. The theatre only had very simple stage equipment and could accommodate 400 guests. Performances were possible in the summer months.
Max Littmann successfully unites Neo-Baroque with Art Nouveau elements
The desire for a theatre with performances all year round and modern stage equipment gradually became overwhelming. The theatre was to be worthy of the growing international popularity of the state bath. In 1904, the wood construction had to give way to a solid construction on the same spot. The experienced architect Max Littmann was able to divide the narrow dimensions of the building site into a theatre with foyer, auditorium and high stage. Externally, the building looks Franconian Neo-Baroque also carrying elements of Neo-Renaissance. It may come as a little surprise that the auditorium boasts an imposing Rococo-style ceiling painting, while the design and features of the room follow Art Nouveau. Today, the theatre is equipped with modern stage, sound and lighting technology and can also be used for lectures, conferences and festive events for up to 542 people.
It was built between 1910 and 1911 in just eight months, according to the plans of architect Max Littmann. It is built like a basilica with its interior divided by columns in three longitudinal naves.
As a landmark in architecture and interior design, the historic Kursaal building from 1833 at the state bath in Bad Brückenau is the visiting card of the spa and resort city. The classical hall construction with its arcade was built by order of King Ludwig I, according to plans by Johann Gottfried Gutensohn (1792-1851). The listed Kursaal building from 1833 with its three halls (430 sqm, 160 sqm, 100 sqm) offers attractive rental locations.
